Historical Friday 55....

.
THIS DAY IN HISTORY...
In 1978 after four decades of dictatorship,
Spain became a democracy again.
Three years after the death of Francisco Franco.
In 1932, Radio City Music Hall,
the world's largest indoor theater,
opened in Rockefeller Center.
An earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter Scale,
Hit Eastern Antolia Turkey killing 20,000 in 1939....
.
.
Hey, I realize that I took some liberties on the numbers
You know what?..BFD!!..Hahahaha...
Anyway, if you have participated in this weeks 55, please let me know!
The Beautiful Susie, is still in India...
...and about the Earthquake?
I didn't write the news you know!!!!

It's Freakin Winter............

I've been doing this at this dealership for 20 years..
The first thing you have to do is get the vin #
Then you get the keys.
Then you clean off each car.
Then you get in and start each car
Then you plow the lane in front of each car
Then you pull the car foreward into the plowed lane
Then you plow where the car was setting
Then you get back in the car and back it into it's original spot.
8 inches..Wind Chill of 9...
The first shot is what the Cobalt row looked like
The second shot is what you had to wade through between cars.
The final shot is what the lot looked like after we were done..
I'm wayyyyyy too old for this shit....
And hey folks...Speaking of OLD!!!
The Beautiful Jenn...AKA SignGurl..Is Having a Birthday Today!!!
YAY!!!! YAY!!!!! And not only THAT..She is STILL in her 30's!!!
For Real!!!...Go wish the Beautiful, Ever-Shrinking, and Smokin-Hot SignGurl a very happy birthday..I'd have her name in that blue ink link stuff if I knew how to do it..Go On!!!
Peace...!

Let it Snow..........

This post should probably go on the Jack-Assery Blog...
One day last week, I was a little late for work because all of the doors on my old "beater" were frozen shut. In the trunk of my car I happened to have some clothes that were destined for the Goodwill...So My bright Idea was to put a little door protection up so they would not freeze shut again...And since The snow has been falling at about a rate of an inch an hour for the last 6 hours, I feel like Fricken Einstein...hehehehe..I hope you don't get 'Dumped' on today, By Mother Nature...or anyone else for that matter!!!
Peace..!!

Hi-Yo 55.........

I loved Saturday mornings growing up..
No School
Watch Cartoons,
...and watch my favorite Westerns!
I think that you'd agree with this statement..
"Christmas and Birthdays are for kids!"
Trix are for kids too, but I may be wrong.
I had a wonderful childhood,
Just maybe... thats why I'm still a big kid at heart!
.
.
(Any Saturday Morning from 1948-1960)
....The house is quiet...Suddenly, The William Tell Overture starts to Blast Out of the TV Speakers!!...An excited narrator with a great voice Booms....
.
"A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty Hi-Yo Silver!
The Lone Ranger!
With his faithful Indian companion Tonto, The daring and resourceful masked rider of the plains led the fight for law and order in the early West. Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear...The LONE RANGER rides again!!"
.
God, what a great line..."A Fiery Horse with the Speed of Light!"
.
Peace..!

Ask Mr. Knowitall.......

Hi everybody, If it's Wednesday, it must be time for ..."Ask Mr. Knowitall".......
.
A Mr. Paul Harvey from Chicago Illinois, asks..Dear Mr. Knowitall....
"Was George Washington a sad man?"
.
"Dear Paul, George had at least 4 sets of false teeth, which he soaked in port wine everynight to make them taste better. By the time he was president he had only one tooth left and used a set of dentures fashioned from cow's teeth. George later contacted the best dentist in Philadelphia, who produced a state of the art set carved not from wood, but from a hippopotamus tusk. They were thoughtfully made with a hole drilled to fit over his remaining tooth. Sadly, they were not a very good fit. And George was in such constant pain, that he had to take laudenum...Now you know, The rest of the story!!!...Good Day?
.
A Mr. Richard Fallsoff of Bendover England asks...Dear Mr. Knowitall...
"Weren't the British, the first ones to discover a cure for VD?"
.
"Dear Richard...Early Brit cures for the clap included..
1.) Having intercourse with a virgin
2.) Rubbing dung into the male organ
3.) Bathing in horse urine
The only regular precaution taken to avoid VD in Elizabethan times was to wash the genitals in vinegar. 18th century cures for VD included a sound thrashing and having the penis wrapped in the warm parts of a freshly dismembered fowl"....Very Cosmopolitan!!!!
.
A Mr. Tommie Lee of Hasbeen New York asks..Dear Mr. Knowitall..
" Other than Milton Berle, and John Dillinger, name me a more famous 'endowed' personality."
.
"Dear Tommie, The famous French painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, suffered through a series of childhood accidents that gave him the appearance of a dwarf-But not in every way!
When he lived in a brothel, the prostitutes were amazed by the contrast of his small body size, and his large male 'member'. They affectionately refered to him as "The Teapot""...
.
.
Mr. Knowitall grows weary of all this 'Schvance' talk.... Peace!

Sunday Fun.........

Unless you are a total sports geek, or the unlikelyhood that you are older than me, you have NO idea who this is..This was the quarterback of the Detroit Lions the last year that they won a championship..1957!!!!
I remember that team, I was 8 years old....
The reason that I mention this obscure fact is that Tomorrow me and my buddy Berky, are traveling to Ford Field in Detroit to see the Lions take on the Dallas Cowboys...Courtesy of Huntington Bank..hehehehehe..One of the many 'perks' of the car business...
Peace....

Tiss The Season.......

Last Night in a little community just West of Flint named Flushing, they had their annual "Candle-Walk". Everone in the town puts a plastic milk jug in their front yard with a burning candle in it and the streets look quite lovely. My friend and Fraternity Brother Dave Wiget lives in this community. He has a lovely house right on main street, and each year he lets some local artists use his yard and electricity to create the most wonderful ice sculptures.. He was also my friend from the previous post Deadly Nedly's Big Brother in the Fraternity. Since he recently fell off of a ladder doing some roof renovations, Me and Alex dropped by his beautiful home, and did some 'drinkin and rememberin'...Life is too short to not spend it with the ones you love...
Have a great Week-End, and thanks again to everyone for their wonderful comments on my friend Ned...Peace!!

Friday 55.........

In the Fall of "68", I pledged and joined a Fraternity at our local college. Phi Delta Tau!!
We had the only Fraternity house on campus, and we partied like there was no tomorrow. Our pledging process was quite difficult, and those that made it through became very close friends.
The close friends that I have to this day are my Fraternity Brothers..Alex, Berky, Wiggy, et al!
In the Spring of "71", a young brash kid just out of high school, by the name of Edward Jack Kintner joined Phi Delta Tau. He went by the name of Ned, and we called him "Deadly Nedly"!
For some odd reason, we became very close. We loved to hunt and fish...We loved to smoke and drink..We loved party and go to concerts. We had a blast!!..Ned was never very book-smart, and like all Flintoids at the time, if you got a chance to work for GM, you took it! So at age 20, he started work on the assembly line at GM. I finished my degree(Eventually), but we remained very close friends. We went to many many concerts, we closed many many bars... Ned, myself, and Alex, used to go fishing every June to Northern Ontario for the greatest Wall-Eye fishing in the world! The first time I ever rode a Harley-Davidson, was Ned's Harley at Alex's wedding reception. After that I was "Hooked on Hogs"!! We went to Florida together for Spring Break one year, and drove strait-thru blasting "Radar-Love" by Golden Earring, and "Dead Babies" by Alice Cooper the whole way down on his 8-Track..
Ned transfered to a Lansing GM plant 20 years ago, and when he was 50, he retired. He moved to a beautiful spot on the western part of Michigan after he retired, and never married! You could never tie that boy down! He still loved to hunt, and fish, and ride his Harley!!
Last Monday, Ned had a massive stroke and lay paralyzed in a hospital in Muskegon ever since he was found unconscious by a neighbor on Thursday. He was expected to live and pull through it, but this morning I got a call from his brother Tom( also a Fraternity Brother), and he said that Ned went to sleep last night, and never woke up!! You might as well have Gut-Shot me!!
I have been meaning to call Ned for about the last 6 month's but didn't...
Now I never can...
When Tom ended his conversation with me today, the last thing I said to him was "Tom, I love you"...He replied.."Galen, I love you"...Everything else was understood!!!!!
x
x
We had great fun Nedly,
My long and loyal friend
We thought we were immortal
That the party would never end
But the years catch up to you
Time is never on your side...
So buckle-up, and rev it up..
For that long final ride!!!
Soon enough brother...We'll be riding side by side!!

We Don't Need No Fancy Stove....

This morning....like all other mornings...I was in a rush getting to work!
Looking in the fridge, I spot 3/4 of a rotisserie chicken from Sam's Club, 2 tubes of Pillsbury Buttermilk Biscuits, 4 stalks of celery, and I then grabbed an Onion from the pantry..No carrots were anywhere to be found. I take 2 Chicken-Flavored Boullion cubes, throw everything in a bag, then head off to work...
Since I had to work till 8:00 tonight, I decided to have a late lunch...About 2:00 pm I got my hot plate out, cranked it to high, and commenced to boil 2 qts. of water. I added the chopped up onion and celery, salt and pepper..with a pinch of dill seed and thyme, and boiled it for 10 minutes.
While this stuff was cooking, I de-boned the chicken, and set it aside..
I then made some gravy fixin's (4 heaping spoonfulls of flour disolved and stirred up till the lumps are out..in COLD I repeat...COLD water).
Oh Yeah, I had put the boullion cubes in also. But when the stuff came to a boil, thats when you gradually stir in the thickening goop, after adding the chicken.
It turns to a nice Golden Gravy, and it is quite edible now. But this is when you open the biscuits and drop them on top of the boiling stew. Cover the top, and wait 12-15 minutes.
Honest to God, it's as good as any home cooked Chicken and Dumplin's that you'll get...
And it was cooked on a counter, on a hot plate. Of course I shared!!!!...hehehehe
Peace...
